Mumbai: Kolkata Knight Riders vs Rajasthan Royals set a target of 153 for victory over Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2022. Batting first, Rajasthan captain Sanju Samson scored 152 for 5 in 20 overs with a half-century. Sanju was Rajasthan’s top scorer with 54 off 49 balls. Tim Southee took two wickets for Kolkata.
Early setback
Rajasthan lost the toss and opted to bat in the third over. Opener Devdutt Padikkal (2) was caught by Umesh Yadav in the second over. With Jose Butler unable to rise to his usual form, Rajasthan could not break into the power play. It was Sanju who broke the deadlock in the beginning and put Rajasthan ahead in the power play.
After the power play, Buttler (22 off 25 balls) was dropped by Southee and the responsibility fell on Sanju. With this, Sanju started swinging the bat carefully and the Rajasthan scoreboard slipped away. Karun Nair (13) could not do much. Sanju, who completed his half-century off 40 balls, returned after the team crossed the 100 mark. Sanju scored 54 off 49 balls. Sanju’s innings consists of seven fours and a six. Ryan Parag (19 off 12 balls), who started the innings with two sixes, returned to the dressing room.
Hetmeyer shot
Shimron Hetmeyer fired in the last two overs to give Rajasthan the lead. Hetmeyer smashed two sixes in a row in the 19th over to put Rajasthan close to 150. Hetmeyer was unbeaten on 27 off 13 balls as Rajasthan were bowled out for 150 in the last over by Shivam Mavi.
Earlier, Kolkata skipper Shresai Iyer won the toss and elected to field Both teams made changes to the team that lost the last game. In the Rajasthan team, Malayalee player Karun Nair replaced Daryl Mitchell in the final XI. There are two changes in the Kolkata team. When Shivam Mavi returned to the team, Anukul Roy also got a place in the team.
