Ole Miss football achieved a resounding victory over the Florida Gators, marking the programme’s 11th season with 10 or more wins and setting several new records in the process. The Rebels’ dominant performance culminated in a decisive win, fueled by a record-breaking performance from running back Kewan Lacy and a historic atmosphere at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
A Series Renewed and a Historic Win
The contest represented the 27th all-time meeting between Ole Miss and Florida, with the series now tied at 13-13-2. This was the first matchup in Oxford, Mississippi, sence 2020. More significantly, the win snapped a long losing streak against the Gators, representing Ole Miss’ first victory as 2008 and the first on their home field since 2002. While Florida previously held a 6-3 advantage in games played in Oxford, that lead is now narrowed.
Record-Breaking Performance Fuels Rebels’ Success
The offensive engine of the Rebels was undeniably running back Kewan Lacy,who delivered a career-high 224 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 31 carries. This performance ranks as the eighth-most rushing yards in a single game in Ole Miss history and the most by a Rebel runner since 2010.Lacy’s 19 rushing touchdowns this season shattered the previous program record of 16, set in 2022.He also broke the single-season all-purpose touchdown record, previously held by multiple players.
“Lacy’s performance was truly remarkable,” noted one analyst. “He consistently found the holes and demonstrated amazing power and determination.”
Lacy’s season now includes 1,136 rushing yards, making him the eighth Rebel all-time to surpass 1,000 yards in a season. Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss also contributed significantly, throwing for 301 yards and one touchdown on 26-of-35 passing, moving him into 17th on the Ole Miss single-season passing list. Wide receiver De’Zhaun Stribling added to the offensive firepower with his 20th career touchdown.
Defensive Prowess and Special Teams Consistency
The Ole Miss defense played a crucial role in securing the victory. Safety Wydett Williams Jr. recorded his third interception of the season, equaling his career high, and also led the team with eight tackles. Linebacker Head of the Prince registered a team-leading 5.5 sacks on the year with a takedown of Florida’s quarterback. kicker Lucas Carneiro remained consistent, converting both of his field goal attempts and all four PATs, bringing his season total to 106 points.
A Landmark Season for Ole Miss Football
Today’s attendance of 68,138 marked the largest crowd ever to witness a game at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. Under head coach Lane Kiffin, the Rebels have established a dominant home record of 35-6, including a remarkable 35-3 mark since the start of the 2021 season and a 21-1 record since 2023.
