Lithuania’s Culture Ministry Undergoes Leadership Shift
A significant reshuffling of leadership is underway at Lithuania’s Culture Ministry, with new appointments and a recent resignation signaling a period of transition. The changes, confirmed by the ministry itself, come as the new minister seeks to establish her political team and address ongoing priorities.
The ministry announced that Matas Drukteinis is expected to assume the role of Vice-Minister of Culture in the near future. He will be joined by Viktor Denisenko, who is slated to become the third Vice-Minister. These appointments reflect the incoming minister’s vision for the ministry’s direction.
Denisenko revealed that he received a direct invitation to rejoin the Culture Ministry from the newly appointed minister, V. Aleknavičienė. “There were various discussions, and I was asked if I would consider returning,” Denisenko stated on Tuesday. “I’ve always maintained that there is unfinished work, and I wouldn’t dismiss the possibility. Ultimately, the new minister contacted me two days ago, and we agreed that we share a common interest in my return to those tasks.”
The leadership changes follow the recent departure of Anna Kuznecovienė, who announced her resignation from the post of Vice-Minister of Culture on Monday, just weeks after beginning her tenure. Currently, Renata Kurmin, appointed by the former Minister of Education, Science and Sport, Raminta Popovienė, is serving as acting Vice-Minister.
The formation of the ministry’s political team is currently in progress, suggesting further adjustments may be forthcoming. These developments underscore a dynamic period for Lithuania’s cultural sector as the new administration establishes its priorities and leadership structure.
