Bentley Elevates Luxury with Customizable Animated Welcome Lights

Bentley is redefining automotive personalization, allowing customers to project bespoke, moving designs onto the ground as they approach their vehicles. The British automaker will soon offer custom welcome light animations, extending a feature previously showcased as static “light sculptures.”
A New Era of Automotive Greeting
The luxury car brand is taking personalization to a new level, offering clients the ability to create unique greeting animations up to 11 seconds in length. These animations will unfold in two stages: an initial “introduction sequence” upon opening the door, followed by a continuously looping display. This feature represents a significant step beyond simple illumination, transforming the vehicle’s arrival into a personalized experience.
From Romanian Athenaeum to Your Driveway
Bentley and its bespoke division, Mulliner, recently demonstrated the potential of this technology with a collection inspired by Bucharest’s Romanian Athenaeum. The system projected an image of the iconic building onto the ground, enhanced by surrounding “dancing notes” that visually represented music. This display highlighted the artistic possibilities of the new feature.
Limitless Creativity Unleashed
The possibilities for these animations are vast, according to the automaker. Customers can design anything from a simple handwritten name to more complex visuals, such as a feather gently ‘falling’ to the ground. “The possibilities are virtually endless as customers can let their imaginations run wild,” a company release stated.
The Technology Behind the Magic
The system’s sophistication lies in its intricate engineering. Three colored light sources project through five lenses and two prisms into an 8mm² Digital Micromirror Device. This light signal is then refined through five additional lenses, ultimately displaying the animation on the ground when the doors open. At the heart of this technology are 415,800 tiny aluminum mirrors, each measuring just 16 microns wide and functioning as a single pixel.
According to Bentley, this innovation successfully bridges “the world of digital innovation and handcrafted luxury,” setting a new benchmark within the automotive industry. The complex system demonstrates Bentley’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of automotive technology and personalization.
