The Chattanooga Mocs wrestling team delivered a noteworthy performance at the Black Knight Invite, hosted at the United States Military Academy, with seven wrestlers reaching the podium and showcasing promising early-season form. Strong Showing at West Point
The Mocs’ success at the Black Knight Invite was highlighted by Hunter Mason’s third-place finish in the 141-pound weight class, leading the team’s contingent. According to a team spokesperson, the coaching staff was pleased with the wrestlers’ efforts to implement techniques honed in practice, acknowledging that continued refinement is key. “We saw our guys trying the things what we’re working on in practice. It takes time. There are several things we can get better at…hand fighting and match situations really stick out. It’s nice that we have a good amount of time to really break this stuff down before our next competition,” they stated.

Notably, 17 of the team’s 27 victories came with bonus points, including seven major decisions, seven technical falls, and three pins.
Cavarius Liddie’s victory at 157 pounds stood out as a highlight. He defeated 32nd-ranked Joe Antonio of Army with a first-period fall in just 55 seconds, marking his first career win against a ranked opponent. Hunter Mason’s only defeat came against former All-American Aaron Nagao in the semifinals, a close 11-6 decision. Flynn, Meiszner, Liddie, and Vergara all demonstrated resilience, battling back through the wrestlebacks after early losses to secure their fifth-place finishes.
App State Open Results
In addition to the Black Knight Invite, the Chattanooga Mocs also competed at the App State Open in Boone, North Carolina. The seven Mocs participating achieved a 13-14 record with eight pins. Easton Cooper led the contingent, securing a fourth-place finish at 125 pounds.

We need to have that confidence from the first whistle. We cannot afford to work into matches or tournaments,” a senior official commented.
