Los angeles Launches “LA is Open” Campaign to Revitalize Economy & Prepare for Major Events

Los Angeles is signaling a renewed commitment to economic growth with the launch of “LA is Open,” a complete recovery campaign unveiled on November 17. The initiative aims to bolster business confidence, attract tourism, and support small businesses still recovering from the impacts of January wildfires.

A Multi-Faceted Approach to Economic Renewal

The “LA is Open” campaign centers around three core initiatives – Shop LA, Dine LA, and Discover LA – designed to encourage both residents and visitors to explore the city’s diverse offerings. According to a statement from city officials, the campaign will showcase los Angeles’ vibrant small businesses, thriving creative industries, and renowned cultural institutions.

“Through this bold new campaign, we are sending a clear message that Los Angeles is open for business and ready to welcome everyone back to LA to explore all that our vibrant city has to offer,” Mayor Karen Bass said. “From neighborhood gems like Olvera Street, Grand Central Market, little Ethiopia and more to our museums, beaches, parks and beyond – come visit LA and see why our city is second to none.”

Collaboration Drives Regional Recovery

The campaign is a collaborative effort facilitated by the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC) in partnership with the Los Angeles County Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO), the City of Los angeles Economic & Workforce Development Department (EWDD), the California Community Foundation, and various regional stakeholders.

“LA is Open reflects the collective determination of our region to rise stronger than ever,” said Stephen Cheung, President and CEO of the LAEDC. “This campaign is not just about recovery; it’s about renewal. we are bringing together public and private partners to showcase the resilience, creativity and opportunity that make Los Angeles unlike any place in the world.”

Preparing for the Global Stage

The launch of “LA is Open” also comes as Los Angeles prepares to host several major international events, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Mayor Bass’s “Games for All” vision prioritizes investments in local and small businesses to ensure these events generate lasting economic benefits for Angelenos.

To support this goal, the city recently hosted the Sports and entertainment Procurement Summit, connecting 1,600 local business owners with networking opportunities and procurement guidance.A $1 million donation from Banc of California has also fueled the launch of the City’s Contract Financing Program, providing small businesses and entrepreneurs with access to the financial capital needed to compete for city contracts.

New Initiatives to Support Local Businesses

Beyond the “LA is Open” campaign and preparations for upcoming events, the city has implemented several other economic initiatives, including:

  • finalizing the expansion and modernization of the LA Convention Center.
  • Launching the Business Navigator, a centralized online resource for small businesses seeking permits, resources, and procurement opportunities.
  • Creating “ProcureLA,” a program operated in partnership with the Pacific Asian Consortium in Employment (PACE), offering one-on-one consultation, training, and assistance with certification and proposal development for businesses pursuing procurement opportunities.

These efforts collectively demonstrate a proactive approach to fostering economic growth and ensuring Los Angeles remains a vibrant hub for business and innovation. The “LA is Open” campaign represents a important step towards a stronger, more resilient future for the city and its residents.
