The tefillin that survived: Firefighters and volunteers from the Yehuda regional station worked tonight (Tuesday) to put out a fire that broke out in an apartment in the ultra-Orthodox city of Beitar Illit.

Preliminary investigation shows that the fire broke out as a result of an electric bicycle flare-up. An inspection conducted after the extinguishing revealed that from the fire only the tefillin remained intact when even the tefillin bag was burned.

Reshef Avi Ben Saadon, the shift commander, said: “Upon receiving the report, crews were launched from the Yehuda regional station.

“The firefighters worked at the scene for a final extinguishing, as well as for heat and smoke release operations. During the operations carried out by the firefighters in the apartment, they found a burned tefillin bag while the tefillin that was inside remained intact.”

Finally, he said: “I request and emphasize that precautions should be taken when charging electric bicycles: do not leave them unattended, and light and material should not be charged during the night. Also, use only an original battery. In addition, when charging is done, disconnect the bike from electricity.” .
