Jundiaí Launches Door-to-Door Rabies Vaccination Drive Following Feline Case
A targeted rabies vaccination campaign is underway in the Vila Arens region of Jundiaí, Brazil, following the confirmation of a rabies case in a local feline earlier this month. Health officials are proactively expanding vaccination efforts to protect both pets and residents from this potentially fatal disease.
Responding to a Localized Threat
The Environmental Health Surveillance (VISAM), an agency of the Jundiaí Health Promotion Secretariat, initiated the expanded effort on Tuesday, November 25th. This phase follows a three-day period – November 13th, 14th, and 15th – where vaccination outposts were established throughout the neighborhood. Now, teams are conducting a house-to-house campaign to reach dogs and cats that may not have been vaccinated during the initial outreach.
“We will carry out an active search directly in homes to apply the vaccine to animals that, for some reason, could not be taken by their owners to the outposts during the days they were available,” explained a VISAM coordinator. “The objective is to increase vaccination coverage in the region, especially in the main surroundings from the focus where the case of feline rabies was recorded.”
Vaccination Details and Eligibility
The vaccination drive, conducted between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., is focused on the area previously surveyed by VISAM to strategically deploy resources. Rabies vaccination is available for both dogs and cats aged three months or older. This proactive approach aims to create a robust buffer against further spread of the virus.
Ongoing Vaccination Services Available
Beyond the targeted Vila Arens campaign, VISAM maintains a permanent anti-rabies vaccination station for all dogs and cats within the municipality.
