‘Practical Magic 2’ Set to Cast a Spell in 2026 with Kidman, Bullock & New Faces

A highly anticipated sequel to the 1998 cult classic is poised to enchant audiences, promising a blend of nostalgia and fresh storytelling.

The upcoming film, Practical Magic 2, starring Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock, is shaping up to be one of the most charming releases among the 2026 movie slate. The sequel will reunite the iconic duo as witch sisters Gilly and Sally Owens, alongside a new generation of actors. Filming wrapped in September after initial confirmation of the project the prior summer, and Kidman recently shared insights into the remarkably positive experience on set.

A Supportive Set for a Magical Reunion

During a conversation with Ariana Grande for Interview Magazine, Kidman revealed the collaborative spirit that defined the production. “Sandy Bullock and I, and then Joey King and Maisie [Williams]—we had an incredible cast,” she stated. Kidman emphasized a departure from typical filming environments, noting, “A lot of times I don’t have fun when I’m filming because it’s more [emotionally draining]…. But I have such a strong relationship with all those women, so I felt protected and loved. It was just very, very safe.”

This sense of camaraderie was particularly significant, as Kidman highlighted the rarity of such a supportive atmosphere on a film set. “Not every movie set has so many women in them that get to be together and support each other, or get along as well as it sounds like Practical Magic 2 went,” she observed. She described the experience as “so fun,” adding, “And to come back to something so many years later and go, ‘We’re still able to get this movie made at a big big studio like Warner’s,’ and that Sandy and I were able to produce it and get it made, is insane.”

From Flop to Fan Favorite: The Legacy of Practical Magic

The original Practical Magic, released in 1998, initially underperformed at the box office and received mixed reviews. However, the film has since cultivated a dedicated following, becoming a beloved staple during the Halloween season. Given the enduring popularity of the original and the star power of Kidman and Bullock, industry observers anticipate a strong commercial performance for the sequel upon its release next fall.

Kidman previously shared that she and Bullock chose to reside in London throughout the production, fostering their already close bond. The actress described Bullock as “funny and so lovable,” and reports indicate the pair developed a strong friendship during filming, strengthened by a “network of support between each other.”

Expanding the Owens Family & Creative Team

Beyond the return of Kidman and Bullock, Practical Magic 2 boasts an impressive ensemble cast. Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest will reprise their roles as Frances and Jet Owens, the beloved aunts to Sally and Gilly. New additions include Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) in her first major role in years, Xolo Maridueña (Cobra Kai), and Lee Pace. Joey King is confirmed to play one of the daughters of Bullock’s character, Sally Owens.

The screenplay is once again penned by Akiva Goldsman, with contributions from Georgia Pritchett. Suzanne Bier directs the project.

Practical Magic 2 is scheduled to premiere in theaters on September 18, 2026, alongside the next installment in the Resident Evil franchise. Kidman’s enthusiasm for the project suggests a film brimming with warmth and magic, and audiences are hopeful that this positive energy will translate to the screen.
