A new $600 million medical, research, and health innovation center – the UNSW Health Translation Hub – has officially opened in Sydney, poised to accelerate the delivery of cutting-edge healthcare solutions to communities across New South Wales. The 35,600 square meter facility, a partnership between UNSW Sydney and Plenary Group, is designed to bridge the gap between scientific discovery and real-world patient outcomes.
The opening of the hub is being hailed as a pivotal moment for the state’s healthcare landscape. “The opening of this facility is a game-changer for health care, innovation and education in NSW,” stated Premier Chris Minns during the official opening on November 24, 2025. “The ultimate goal of this hub is simple: better health outcomes for people across NSW. Every discovery made here, every partnership formed, will translate into better treatment, faster diagnosis and stronger communities.”

Under an initial 20-year agreement, UNSW will occupy two-thirds of the facility, alongside the Minderoo Children’s Comprehensive Cancer Centre (MCCCC) and The George Institute for Global Health. The remaining space will be managed by Plenary and made available to industry partners, fostering a dynamic ecosystem of collaboration and innovation.
“The UNSW Health Translation Hub represents a major step forward in how we design and deliver places that bring research, education and industry together,” explained a Plenary Group representative. “It’s more than a building — it’s an anchor for the precinct and broader community.” The project, they added, successfully brings together leading public and private organizations to generate long-term value for both the community and the economy.
Funding and Development Details
The $600 million facility was fully funded by Plenary, IFM Investors, HESTA (through its healthcare property mandate with ISPT), and UniSuper. Plenary served as the project’s development and asset manager, with Hansen Yuncken acting as the contractor and Architectus as the lead architect. This complex undertaking demonstrates a commitment to long-term investment in the future of healthcare innovation.
