Auburn Gymnastics Welcomes Elite Talent Brynn Torry to the Plains
A promising new chapter begins for Auburn University gymnastics as the team prepares for the 2026 season with the arrival of highly-regarded freshman, Brynn Torry. The Yorktown, Virginia native brings a wealth of experience and a determined spirit to the program, poised to make an immediate impact.
A Proven Competitor
Torry arrives at Auburn as a two-year senior elite level gymnast, already demonstrating her capabilities on the national stage. In 2024, she showcased her skills at several prestigious competitions, including the U.S. Championship where she secured a sixth-place finish on vault. She also competed at the Core Hydration Classic, American Classic, and Winter Cup, achieving a ninth-place ranking on bars and in the all-around at the Core Classic.
First Impressions and Auburn’s Appeal
The transition to college life has been positive for Torry, who immediately connected with the Auburn atmosphere. “My first visit to Auburn was amazing,” she shared. “I instantly fell in love with the campus, the people, and the overall atmosphere. I knew I wanted to be a part of the Auburn family right away.” Adjusting to the demands of collegiate academics has presented a learning curve, with time management and independence being the most significant hurdles.
Driven by Family and Tradition
Torry credits her father as her biggest role model, describing him as “the hardest working, driven person I have ever met.” His influence extends beyond work ethic, providing a foundation of love and support throughout her life. The vibrant traditions of Auburn University also played a key role in her decision to join the team. “All the traditions here at Auburn were a big reason why I loved it so much,” she explained, enthusiastically listing the eagle flight, chants, swag surfing, and rolling Toomer’s Corner as highlights.
Embracing the Team Dynamic
The shift from the individual focus of elite gymnastics to the collaborative environment of NCAA competition is something Torry is embracing. “I love how college gymnastics isn’t as individualized as elite gymnastics is,” she noted. “It’s definitely a team sport in the NCAA, which I love.” This team-oriented approach, coupled with a strong personal drive, fuels her motivation even on challenging days. She finds strength in reminding herself of her goals and connecting with friends and family.
Beyond the Gym: Interests and Aspirations
Outside of the demanding world of gymnastics, Torry enjoys spending time with loved ones, expressing her creativity through singing and dancing, and indulging in a bit of shopping. Her family’s waterfront property provides another outlet, with boating and jet skiing offering a welcome escape. Academically, she is pursuing a degree in exercise science, with aspirations of becoming a physical therapist.
Superstitions and Season Goals
Like many athletes, Torry has developed a few unique pre-competition rituals. These include a specific order for applying her grips, a finger-linking routine before mounting the bar, a lucky quarter tucked into her right tiger paw, and consistently using the same hair ties. Looking ahead to the season, Torry is eager to compete in Neville Arena and contribute to the team’s success. “I really want to compete in all 4 events and contribute to our team goals!” she stated.
Advice for Aspiring Collegiate Gymnasts
For younger gymnasts striving for collegiate success, Torry offers words of encouragement. “I would say to stick with it,” she advises. “It is going to get hard, and you will lose motivation sometimes, but just remind yourself what you are working so hard for and keep pushing! Also, have fun! It goes by so fast, so don’t take it for granted.” She acknowledges a common frustration among gymnasts, admitting her biggest pet peeve is “falling over on cast handstands and getting stuck in the pit.”
A Glimpse into the Past and Future
Reflecting on childhood dreams, Torry initially aspired to follow in her father’s footsteps and become a doctor. Now, with a clear path toward a career in physical therapy, she is focused on maximizing her potential both in and out of the gym. If given the opportunity, she would choose teleportation as her superpower, highlighting a desire for efficiency and the ability to be present in multiple places at once.
As Brynn Torry embarks on her collegiate journey, she embodies the dedication, talent, and spirit that will undoubtedly contribute to the continued success of Auburn gymnastics.
