“Blessed Banquet” Aims to Revitalize Family Connection This Thanksgiving with Comedy and hope

A new Thanksgiving special, “Blessed Banquet,” premiering on TeleOnce on Thursday, November 27, 2025, at 7:00 pm, seeks to offer a much-needed dose of community and optimism during turbulent times. Produced by young creatives from Ponce, Puerto Rico, under the guidance of Father Orlando Lugo, the program blends humor, emotion, and a powerful message of unity.
A Collaborative Effort to Empower Young Talent
The genesis of “Blessed Banquet” lies in a unique partnership between TeleOnce,the De Barrio Foundation of Ponce,and professors from the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico. This alliance was specifically designed to provide opportunities for talented young peopel who often lack access to the media industry. As one key figure explained, “As a priest, I realized that there are humble young people, with a lot of talent, who do not have this access to the media.And this foundation gives them the prospect to create.”
The initial concept emerged from a summer producer training camp called “Liderarte,” fostering a space for these emerging filmmakers to hone their skills. While Father Lugo initially hesitated to take a central role in the production, he was persuaded by the understanding that his participation would represent an entire community. He subsequently refined the script with the young team, ensuring the special resonated with their collective vision.
A Stellar Cast Brings the Story to Life
“Blessed Banquet” boasts a diverse and talented cast, including Isabel Negrón, Alina Hernandez, and Deddie Romero. Joining them are Jailene Cintrón, alex Delgado, and Ferdinand Pérez. A especially exciting addition is the appearance of salsa legend Gilberto Santa Rosa, bringing a special emotional resonance to the project.
Notably, “Blessed Banquet” marks the return of Jailene Cintrón to television after a 10-year absence. Cintrón expressed her enthusiasm for the project, stating, “I did not hesitate for a second when they told me that the invitation came from Father Orlando, becuase I admire, respect and value all the projects that he has been carrying out.” She emphasized the importance of a production that could unite puerto Rican families and provide a platform for the young talent involved.
Personal Stories and a Vision for the Future
The production delves into deeply personal narratives, including a poignant moment featuring Deddie Romero sharing a previously untold experience with her son during Thanksgiving. Romero described the experience as transformative, particularly after learning about the community’s history and the dedication of the young production team. She highlighted the project’s potential to inspire families across the contry.
Romero also underscored the need for greater opportunities for young creators on Puerto Rican television, stating, “It has been a pleasure to work with these students and these young people. They are very talented, and it seems to me that an exercise like this shoudl be repeated on all the channels in Puerto Rico.”
“Blessed Banquet” is a collaboration between De Barrio Foundation and Israel Media, directed by Israel Gonzalez with acting direction by Alexander the First. General production is overseen by Father Orlando Lugo and Jonel Fabian Cruz. The team hopes this special will spark a renewed focus on family connection and reflection, encouraging viewers to rediscover the value of shared moments and gratitude. As one participant put it, “I am more than sure that this special is going to provoke something that we have not done in a long time and that we need as a family: to sit down and enjoy together a special that edifies us, that unites us, that leads us to reflect.” Beyond the laughter, “Blessed Banquet” serves as a powerful reminder that gratitude is not confined to a single day, but a daily practise that strengthens individuals and communities.
