Plovdiv (dpa) – The German volleyball players have messed up their European Championship start.

After a changeable performance on serve, the team of national coach Felix Koslowski Poland lost 1: 3 (22:25, 25:23, 21:25, 22:25). The Germans made too many mistakes in the unsuccessful revenge for the EM-Aus in the quarter-finals two years ago.

Louisa Lippmann and Lina Alsmeier were the best German attackers in Plovdiv in Bulgaria with 16 points each. Against the Czech Republic in the second preliminary round game on Friday (4.30 p.m. / Sport1), Koslowski’s team now wants to take their first win.

The Germans found it difficult to get going and made a lot of mistakes. Despite two set balls blocked, the first round went to Poland. Then Lippmann & Co. came into play better. In the third set Koslowski criticized the inactivity of his team, which fell 3: 8 behind. After that, the Germans appeared more courageous. They even equalized at 10:10, but did not develop enough pressure on the offensive. Koslowski’s team also made too many mistakes in the last set and deservedly suffered the opening defeat in the end.
