Kindergarten Employee Charged After Six-Year-Old Suffers Severe Injuries in Fall from Window

A Norwegian kindergarten employee is facing legal charges following an incident in May where a six-year-old boy sustained critical injuries after falling from a bedroom window during a nursery school trip. The incident occurred on May 20th in Kvam,when the child,who had recently turned six,fell more than four meters from a window. He was immediately transported to Haukeland hospital via air ambulance, where doctors discovered a serious brain haemorrhage.Emergency surgery was performed, and the boy was hospitalized for eleven weeks, initially in intensive care for one week, followed by ten weeks in the Children’s and youth Clinic, according to Hege Falch, the boy’s legal counsel.

The prosecution alleges the employee left the bedroom window open and unsecured – lacking a window fuse – on the morning of the incident. A full assessment of potential linguistic and cognitive impacts is still underway.

“It is too early to assess the final extent of damage for linguistic and cognitive assessment,” Falch stated.

Police prosecutor Marcus Ø. Monsen confirmed that the examination indicates no intentional wrongdoing, but rather negligence on the part of the employee. “we believe that the defendant did not act intentionally, but that he was negligent. That the defendant can be blamed for the accident that then occurred,” Monsen explained.
