The girl, who went to the Lalitpur police station to lodge a complaint, was allegedly sexually abused by police officer Tilaktari Saroj. Opposition leaders have slammed the ruling BJP state government in UP over the issue. The incident has caused great controversy in the state.
In this context, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi wrote on her Twitter page about the incident, “A 13-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by a police officer when she went to the police station to lodge a complaint. This shows that law and order, to be honest, is being crushed by bulldozers. If police stations are not safe for women where do they go to lodge a complaint? Serious measures must be taken to prevent such incidents and to ensure that women have the appropriate legal framework for their protection. ”
It is noteworthy that the police station officer Tilakdari, who is accused in the incident, was arrested.
