Isack hadjar: From Quantum Physics to Verstappen’s Teammate at Red Bull racing

A rising star in Formula 1, Isack Hadjar, is poised to join Max Verstappen at Red Bull Racing next season, capping a remarkable ascent fueled by talent, determination, and a unique family legacy. The 21-year-old Frenchman, currently tenth in the World Championship standings, has quickly become a driver to watch, exceeding expectations and earning the praise of Red Bull’s top advisor.

Hadjar’s journey to the pinnacle of motorsport is an unconventional one. At the beginning of the year, a senior Red Bull official declared, “Hadjar is the real deal.” His father, Yassine Hadjar, a former racing driver himself, initially envisioned a diffrent path for his son, a career steeped in academia, perhaps even a future in physics – a nod to the renowned physicist. “It was never within our framework of reality,” Yassine hadjar explained, reflecting on his initial aspirations for his son. He envisioned a scientific path for Isack, a future filled with formulas and research, not the high-octane world of formula 1.

However, young isack’s passion ignited after watching a Disney film featuring cars, sparking a desire to learn karting. Despite limited financial resources,a common hurdle for aspiring racers,he seized every possibility to hone his skills. He systematically progressed through the racing ranks – Formula 4, Formula 3, Formula 2 – before making his Formula 1 debut earlier this year.

The Exponential Jump to Formula 1

Hadjar describes each step up as an “exponential jump,” a transition to “another dimension.” This scientific mindset is evident even in his past helmet designs, wich featured depictions of laws from Schrödinger and Newton, among others. His father instilled in him the importance of remembering one’s roots, stating, “What brought me another life now protects my son,” referencing the symbolic helmet.

His debut race in Australia with Racing Bulls was marred by a heartbreaking incident. A spin on the formation lap prevented him from even starting the race, leaving him visibly distraught. The emotional driver was comforted by none other than Lewis Hamilton’s father, a poignant moment of sportsmanship.

Resilience and Rising Through the Ranks

Despite the turbulent start,Hadjar demonstrated remarkable resilience. Known for his tenacity – described as sometimes “cursing and ranting” during his Formula 2 championship run – he quickly established himself as a stable and consistent performer in Formula 1. He has achieved ten top-ten finishes this season, with a third-place podium at the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort standing as a highlight.

Currently tenth in the World Championship standings with one race remaining, Hadjar trails only kimi Antonelli (seventh) among this year’s newcomers, though Antonelli drives for the prominent Mercedes team.

The Path to a World Championship?

Next season, Hadjar will have the opportunity to compete with the same equipment as reigning champion Max Verstappen. The prospect of challenging for a World Championship is within reach, a feat only achieved by one Frenchman before him: the legendary Alain Prost.

A senior Red Bull official playfully suggested a comparison to Prost, noting Hadjar’s habit of biting his nails, a trait shared by the four-time world champion. Hadjar himself acknowledged the comparison, stating, “But I’m happy with it, I hope Mr. Prost doesn’t mind, he’s a legend.”

Isack Hadjar’s story is a testament to the power of passion, perseverance, and a unique upbringing that blended scientific curiosity with a burning desire to race. His future in Formula 1 is radiant, and the world will be watching to see if he can live up to the immense potential that has already become so apparent.
