With a theme like Omissionswhich evokes the mirror concept of Worksand makes us reflect on silences, shortcomings, regrets, the 23rd edition of the Milanesiana, conceived and directed by Elisabetta Sgarbi, and presented on Tuesday 3 May at the Piccolo Teatro in Milan. A theme that reminds us, Sgarbi explained, of what we should and could have done and did not do and what we could have said and did not say. And which has a very wide range of declinations: moral, political, legal, aesthetic. There is no literature without it Omissionsas Eco taught.

A clear reference will be to the war, continued the creator, presenting the 2022 version of the Squad of the Milanesiana, conceived by Franco Battiato and reworked by Franco Achilli, with the colors of Ukraine: Because this war, together with other equally brutal ones, will enter the Milanesiana.


Mayor Giuseppe Sala also spoke at the presentation on Tuesday 3 May: What the Milanese culture in these times must keep together. Then, Elisabetta Sgarbi unveiled the program, with 150 guests (the international authors return, after two years of omissions), 63 meetings, 8 previews and 9 exhibitions. An exhibition opens the review in Sondrio on 4 June at the Valtellinese Museum of History and Art, with the works of the singer-songwriter Simone Cristicchi who will be in concert at the Teatro sociale that same evening. Among the other exhibitions: in Bergamo from 6 June Lumen by the artist Nino Miglior, at the Venaria in Turin from 25 June the great exhibition dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of Charles Shultz with all the issues of Linus magazine published so far; in Ascoli Piceno from 30 June at the Lucini Gallery The color of silence with new photographs by Carlo Verdone; and on 22 July in Bormio the luminous sculpture by Marco Lodola dedicated to the Milanesiana rose (complete program on lamilanesiana.eu).

Many guests and, as often happens at the Milanesiana, sometimes engaged in unprecedented roles. In Milan, at the Teatro Parenti on June 8, the preview of the show Who killed my fatherby and with the writer douard Louis, directed by Thomas Ostermeier. Louis himself will dialogue on June 9 at the Teatro Carcano with the D’Innocenzo brothers. Also in Milan, on June 13, the 2021 Nobel Prize winner Abdulrazak Gurnah will receive the seal of the city from Mayor Sala and will talk with Paolo Giordano, with Minister Dario Franceschini present.

The Milanese program continues on June 14 at the Strehler Theater with the show Fratto X/Friendshipon De Andr, by Antonio Rezza and Flavia Mastrella, on the 15th at the Cloister of the Incoronata with Claudio Magris, on the 16th at the Arianteo with Massimo Cacciari, on the 17th at the Anteo with Abel Ferrara, on the 18th at the Conservatory with the homage to Franco Battiato, on the 21st with Edith Bruck, and on the 22nd June with Piergaetano Marchetti in dialogue with Ludmila Ulitskaya and Elena Kostioukovitch. On the 20th, near Milan, in Seregno, the dialogue between Yanis Varoufakis and Vinicio Capossela, protagonist of the film Undue; Seregno will also host, on June 21, the readings by Andrew Sean Greer, Enrico Rotelli and Lisa Halliday and the concert by Vasco Brondi.

The summer of the festival will also touch Pavia with the Pulitzer Joby Warrick, Alessandria with the homage to Pasolini by Vittorio Sgarbi, Bassano del Grappa with the tribute to Enzo Jannacci di Elio, Ascoli Piceno with the show World Italy by Federico Buffa, Milan again with the show Joyce by Mauro Covacich, Bormio with the athlete Federica Pellegrini and with the writer Michael Cunningham. Various stages in Emilia Romagna: among these, on July 13 in Imola the writer Ben Jelloun, on July 18 in Dozza Vittorio Sgarbi with the show Caravaggio and Pasolini. To return to Milan, on July 19, with John Coetzee and Sandro Veronesi.

The journey of the Milanesiana will also offer music of the Extraliscio, of Enrico Ruggeri, of the Three cheerful dead boys, of Tricarico, of Alice and many others. And it will close on August 3 in Gardone Riviera with the violinist Ara Malikian.
