A major service disruption impacted LFT Fiber customers across Acadiana on Tuesday, leaving residents, businesses, and even law enforcement agencies without reliable internet and phone connectivity. According to a company release, LFT Fiber first acknowledged intermittent phone issues earlier in the day before confirming a cut fiber line was responsible for the widespread disruption by mid-afternoon. A 5 p.m. update revealed a cut on a main Lumen fiber line in Texas, a critical backbone provider for regional networks like LFT Fiber. “Lumen is one of the major backbone providers that connects regional networks like ours to the wider internet, so damage on their network can disrupt service for multiple providers across the area,” a senior official stated.
This second cut significantly exacerbated the initial local outage, impacting overall network capacity throughout the region. LFT Fiber crews are currently on-site working to repair the locally damaged line, while simultaneously taking steps to extend capacity and re-route traffic to mitigate the effects of the Texas fiber cut.
