A powerful winter storm is poised to impact Newfoundland, with snowfall and wind warnings now in effect across much of the island. The worst of the conditions are anticipated to arrive overnight and continue through Wednesday, potentially disrupting travel and daily life for residents.

Forecasts indicate accumulations of 10 to 20 centimeters are expected by Wednesday afternoon, continuing into the night before tapering off around midnight. The Clarenville, Terra Nova, and Bonavista Peninsula regions are expected to receive the highest snowfall totals.
According to a meteorologist with Environment Canada, the interior and higher elevation areas will likely experience the most substantial accumulation, coupled with dangerously strong winds. “Winds could gust up to 100 km/h,” the official stated, “creating low visibility due to blowing snow.” The Avalon and Burin Peninsulas are expected to receive approximately 10 to 15 centimeters of snow before transitioning to heavy rain as the storm progresses.
The forecast is further complicated by the potential development of another weather system by Friday, bringing additional rain or snow to the majority of the island and parts of Labrador. Regions currently expecting snow may see a change to rain, adding another layer of uncertainty to the forecast.
