Rage Against The Machine’s Tom Morello Composes New Track for final Fantasy XIV, Fulfilling Composer’s Dream
A groundbreaking collaboration between award-winning guitarist Tom Morello and Final Fantasy XIV composer Masayoshi Soken is set to electrify the popular massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) with a brand-new track, “Everything Burns.” The partnership, a long-held aspiration of Soken’s, underscores the game’s continued embrace of rock music within its dynamic score.
Final Fantasy XIV has consistently integrated rock influences into its musical landscape. Vocalist and guitarist Jason Charles miller of the band Godhead previously contributed vocals to the Endwalker expansion’s iconic song, “Close in the Distance,” and the game’s developers even formed their own rock band, The Primals, demonstrating a deep-rooted recognition for the genre. Soken previously explained that “battle content really matches well with rock music,” noting its inherent ability to “hype up” players and remain “easy to understand.”
The collaboration materialized after Miller informed Soken of Morello’s fandom of Final Fantasy XIV. “It all started when Jason Charles Miller told me that Soken-san, the composer of Final fantasy XIV, was a huge Rage Against The Machine fan and wanted to collaborate,” morello shared in a social media video message. “So I got down to work and wrote this track…with Beartooth, a great band. We wanted to make something super heavy and super powerful for Final Fantasy XIV. I wanted to make an absolute rocking banger of a track that would mirror the energy and the potency of this game.”

Soken himself expressed his excitement, describing the situation as “nonsensical” – in the best possible way. “To write it in an easy-to-understand way? Suddenly, a song gets sent from my top fave, and it gets implemented in the game – that’s the flow, and even as I’m writing this now, it’s totally nonsensical!” he stated, according to machine translation. A translated post from Soken on December 5,2025,further emphasized his joy,stating the track will reach “the maximum instantaneous wind speed” within the Arcadion arena.

“Everything burns,” featuring Beartooth, will debut in the Arcadion battle arena and will also be available on major streaming services starting December 17, 2025. Players can preview snippets of the track in the aforementioned social media posts and trailers.
The new song arrives alongside Final Fantasy XIV Patch 7.4, “Into the Mist,” which launches on December 16, 2025. This update will introduce meaningful changes,including the removal of restrictions
