For every 10 centimeters increase in a man’s waist, the risk of dying from prostate cancer increases by 7%. These are the data from a study presented at the European Congress on Obesity (ECO) and published in BMC Medicine that also shows that this relationship does not only happen with belly fat, but also with body fat in general.
The information in this work is relevant because, while some of the risk factors associated with this tumor are not modifiable, such as “age, family history and race, it is important to discover risk factors that can be changed,” explains the author of the study, the Spanish Aurora Perez-Cornagofrom the Cancer Epidemiology Unit of the University of Oxford (United Kingdom).
