John Mayer Mourns the Loss of Beloved Dog, Moose, After 14 Years

The outpouring of grief following the passing of Moose, singer-songwriter John Mayer’s canine companion, underscores the profound bond between humans adn their pets. On Saturday, Mayer, 48, publicly revealed that Moose had died at the age of 14, sharing a deeply personal and emotional tribute that resonated with fans and fellow celebrities.

Mayer announced the heartbreaking news with a series of photos spanning Moose’s life, from a playful puppy with floppy ears to a steadfast presence by the musician’s side. The images accompanied a heartfelt caption reflecting on the indelible mark the dog left on his world.

“We said goodbye to Moose yesterday,” Mayer wrote, begining a tribute brimming with both sorrow and gratitude. “He came into my life when I needed pure love, and that’s what he gave me for 14 years.”

The singer detailed the subtle yet powerful impact Moose had on his life, offering unwavering companionship and a sense of grounding.”For a guy like me who left home at 19 and had never lived the same day twice, our routine brought real comfort and stability,” Mayer explained. “When dinner is always at 8, and the afternoon walks are at 4:30, those kinds of things can heal your heart. And they did, time and time again.”

mayer further reflected on how Moose’s presence contributed to his personal growth and happiness. “today my heart is so heavy and sore, but there’s more love in my life than there has ever been, and that’s as Moose helped lead me to it,” he shared.he spoke of cherishing the small reminders of Moose that will remain, like discovering an old tennis ball and recalling the joy they shared. “it can’t be long before I unearth an old tennis ball… and when I do, I’ll give it a toss, and think about the dog I had when I was becoming a man, and how he was such a good dog, and that there isn’t ever enough time. But there’s enough love. There’s more than enough.”

The news quickly prompted an outpouring of support from Mayer’s friends and colleagues. Longtime friend Andy Cohen responded, “Beautifully said… and lovely sweet moose.” Lenny Kravitz offered his condolences with a simple, “Sending love.” Sheryl Crow wrote, “Oh John… I’m so sorry. Our dogs are our family members. Heartbreaking!” while “Boy Meets World” star Danielle fishel commented, “Oh, man. Moose. He will be so missed. How beautifully you two loved each other.” Other celebrities, including Katia Lindor and Josh Groban, also shared messages of sympathy.

Moose’s influence extended beyond personal companionship; he even graced the cover of Mayer’s 2013 album, “Paradise Valley.” The adoption of Moose coincided with a period of recovery for Mayer following granuloma surgeries and months of vocal rest, with the dog providing much-needed solace during that time.

Though, touring proved to be a challenge for Moose. Mayer recalled in a 2017 interview that Moose “hates music. he thinks it’s thunder,” and would tremble during performances. Their first attempt at bringing Moose on the road, at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, found the dog “cowering in the corner.”

Mayer’s poignant tribute struck a chord with many, who praised his vulnerability and the depth of his gratitude. His words served as a reminder of the profound impact pets have on our lives, offering unconditional love and a sense of stability. “There isn’t ever enough time. But there’s enough love,” Mayer wrote in his tribute. And for 14 years, Moose gave him exactly that.
