LONDON: Football legend Maradona’s name is still in the record books after his death. The jersey worn by Maradona during the 1986 World Cup quarter-final against England when he scored the “God’s hand” goal is now up for auction for a record amount.
The jersey worn by Maradona went under the hammer for Rs 70.90 crore while scoring both controversial and famous goals. This is the highest bid ever for a player’s jersey in the history of the sport. Maradona handed the jersey to England’s Steve Hodge after the match. The jersey’s jersey was auctioned off because of the controversy surrounding the goal by God’s hand, as well as the beautiful moment described as the goal of the century, which saw five English defenders cut down.
