Miami dismantled the New York Jets 34-10 on Sunday, securing their fourth consecutive victory and bolstering their playoff hopes. The dolphins’ dominant performance was fueled by a strong rushing attack, a stifling defense, and Tagovailoa’s continued success against AFC East opponents.
Tagovailoa Silences Doubts, Remains Undefeated Against Jets
Tagovailoa entered Sunday’s contest with a reputation for struggling in cold weather, holding a 1-7 record in games where the temperature was 46 degrees or colder.Though, the 41-degree kickoff temperature in East Rutherford, New Jersey, didn’t seem to bother the Dolphins’ quarterback. He efficiently managed the offense, completing 13 of 21 passes for 127 yards and a touchdown to Jaylen Waddle on the opening drive. More importantly, Tagovailoa improved to a perfect 7-0 against the Jets as a starter and boasts an 8-0 overall record against AFC East rivals.
“I felt good, but it’s football,” Tagovailoa stated after the game. “Whether it’s hot, whether it’s cold, you’ve got to go out there and you’ve got to play.”
Miami’s Rushing Attack takes Control
While Tagovailoa orchestrated the passing game, the Dolphins’ rushing attack truly took control of the contest. Initially led by De’Von Achane, who rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown before exiting in the second quarter with a rib injury, Miami finished with a remarkable 239 rushing yards and three touchdowns on the ground. Head coach Mike McDaniel indicated Achane’s injury wasn’t severe enough to keep him sidelined if needed in an emergency.
Jaylen Wright stepped up in Achane’s absence, delivering a career-high 107 rushing yards and his first NFL touchdown. Rookie Ollie Gordon II also contributed a touchdown run, showcasing the depth and versatility of the Dolphins’ backfield.
“I don’t think I’ve been in the league where I’ve had a stretch necessarily like this one,” Tagovailoa reflected, “in terms of the start to the year and finding that flow toward the later end of the year.”
Jets Officially Eliminated from Playoff Contention
The jets, already facing an uphill battle, were officially eliminated from playoff contention with the loss. Their offense, plagued by injuries and inconsistency, struggled to gain traction against the Dolphins’ aggressive defense. New York’s quarterback situation became even more precarious during the game, as starter Tyrod Taylor left with a groin injury in the first quarter.
Undrafted rookie Brady Cook was forced into action, completing 14 of 30 passes for 163 yards and two interceptions. While Cook showed flashes of potential,especially in the fourth quarter,it wasn’t enough to overcome the Dolphins’ dominance.
“This game was definitely disappointing,” a visibly frustrated first-year Jets coach Aaron Glenn admitted. “Really hard to try to put this in words.The only thing I can say is I didn’t have these guys ready to play. that was obvious by the way we went out there and played.”
Isaiah Williams provided a brief spark for the Jets with a 78-yard punt return touchdown, but it proved to be a lone bright spot in an otherwise dismal performance. the Dolphins’ defense, led by Zach Sieler’s 2.5 sacks, consistently pressured the Jets’ quarterbacks and limited their offensive opportunities.

The Dolphins (6-7) will look to continue their winning streak next Monday night when they travel to Pittsburgh to face the Steelers. The Jets (3-10) will attempt to salvage their season when they visit the Jacksonville Jaguars next Sunday.
Injury Report: Dolphins linebacker Caleb Johnson left the game in the first quarter with a shoulder injury and did not return. Safety Elijah Campbell was ruled out in the third quarter with knee and ankle injuries. For the Jets, tight end Mason Taylor suffered a stinger, while tight end Stone Smartt sustained a possible concussion. Rookie defensive end Tyler Baron was ruled out with a knee injury, and rookie linebacker Kiko Mauigoa, though cleared from concussion protocol, did not return due to a shoulder injury.
