A 43-year-old man has been arrested by the National Police in Denia, Alicante, Spain, for allegedly misappropriating over €189,500 from the sale of a property. the suspect is accused of using the funds to purchase a home in his own country instead of transferring the agreed-upon amount to the seller.
The inquiry began following a complaint filed by the homeowner,who discovered the sale had been completed without receiving payment. According to authorities, the individual granted power of attorney to the suspect to facilitate the property sale. The homeowner, after spending time abroad, returned to Denia and found his property had been sold without any communication regarding the proceeds. When the homeowner demanded the funds, the suspect reportedly stalled and provided excuses.After months of persistent requests, only €22,000 of the €201,000 total was transferred.
Delayed Payment and Confession
The suspect was evasive, “He was giving him long,” authorities stated. Eventually, the suspect confessed to using the remaining funds-approximately €179,500-to purchase a property in his home country, claiming it was undergoing renovations and the money was therefore unavailable. This confession prompted a full investigation by authorities.
Police Investigation and Arrest
Following the confession, authorities launched a full investigation, ultimately identifying and locating the suspect. He was afterward arrested on suspicion of misappropriation. The 43-year-old was placed at the disposal of the duty judge in Denia. The misappropriated funds are currently the focus of ongoing recovery efforts. authorities have not released the suspect’s nationality.
