A recent hands-on preview at Dyson HQ offered a glimpse into the potential – and the challenges – of this next-generation vacuum.
A Design Revolution: Slim Profile and Innovative Features
The PencilVac’s most striking feature is its incredibly slim profile. This is achieved by integrating the dustbin directly into the handle, complete with an ejector function for easy emptying. According to an engineer at Dyson, the design was intentionally inspired by the popular Dyson Airwrap, with both devices sharing the same 38mm handle diameter – a size determined to be optimal for both comfort and ergonomics.

Dyson plans to release the PencilVac in both the U.K. and the U.S. in 2026. However, pricing remains a significant unknown. The cost will likely be a major factor in determining the PencilVac’s success, especially considering Dyson’s recently released Piston vacuum, which also features Fluffycones but includes a traditional dust cup and a wider range of attachments.
Despite the lingering questions, the PencilVac’s innovative design and ergonomic features have generated considerable excitement.
