Food safety officials led by Food Safety Officer Jayaweera Pandian conducted a ‘surprise’ raid on 52 Shawarma Chicken outlets in Madurai yesterday. The test revealed that 5 stores had spoiled old fridge in the fridge. Based on this, notices have been issued on behalf of the Department of Food Safety asking for clarification to the 5 shops concerned.

Also, the Department of Food Safety warned restaurants not to sell cooked meats in the refrigerator and not to add too much color to meats, including chicken. Food safety official Jayaweera Pandyan has warned that stern action will be taken against restaurants that do not comply with food safety regulations.
