While Lindblad’s signing was ultimately confirmed, De Limburger reports that Marko pursued the deal independently, without full alignment with other Red Bull management. Even more considerably, Marko allegedly signed a contract with Alex Dunne despite explicit instructions from shareholders, team boss Laurent Mekies, and sporting director Mintzlaff that Dunne was not a viable candidate for the Red Bull junior program.
“Marko knew that it had already been decided…that Dunne would not be an option for the junior program. Without anyone knowing it, Marko signed the Irishman anyway,” the report states.
This unilateral action reportedly caused immediate friction within Red Bull,with Marko instructed to terminate the contract with Dunne,who had previously been part of the McLaren F1 program. The team is believed to have incurred a “significant fee” to dissolve the agreement, as Dunne was never formally introduced as a Red Bull junior driver.
