Cabrera Trade Finalized: Tigres de Aragua Acquire Big Leaguer from Tiburones de La Guaira
The Tigres de Aragua and the Tiburones de La Guaira have finalized a significant player exchange, culminating in the transfer of Major League Baseball infielder Oswaldo Cabrera to Aragua. This deal, initially announced on November 9, deviates from earlier reports suggesting a two-player exchange, ultimately centering on Cabrera’s acquisition by the Tigres.
The Tiburones de La Guaira confirmed the completion of the transaction on December 11, 2025, expressing gratitude for Cabrera’s contributions during his time with the team. According to a team release, the Sharks will receive prospects in return for the 26-year-old Cabrera. “We will receive prospects for the future in this change,” a team official stated.
The trade initially involved catcher Rafael Marchán, but negotiations evolved to focus on Cabrera, who has one season of experience in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP). In the 2023-2024 campaign, Cabrera batted .267 with an on-base plus slugging (OPS) of .700 in 25 games for La Guaira.
However, Cabrera’s availability for the 2025-2026 LVBP season remains uncertain due to a recent injury. The big leaguer underwent surgery for a delicate injury to his left ankle after playing 34 games with the New York Yankees this year.
