Wellington Prepares for a Weekend of Events
Wellington City Council is actively preparing for the influx of attendees. According to anna Calver, the council’s chief economic and engagement officer, Courtenay Place is receiving a “little bit of TLC, a bit more of a glow up then usual,” with crews focused on removing graffiti and cleaning street furniture. Calver anticipates a “much-needed boost, not just to the economy, but also to uplift our spirits in Wellington as well.”
The council is coordinating with police and MetLink to manage potential road closures and rerouted buses, anticipating “thousands of people” converging on Courtenay Place.While the premiere will require the temporary closure of three neighboring businesses, all have reportedly been compensated for the disruption.Zahi Assaf, owner of Phoenician Falafel, expressed optimism about the event, stating, “It brings a lot of people into town, it’s bringing back the theatre life… it’s just a good event that we could have in Wellington.”
However,Avatar 3 is not the only attraction in Wellington this weekend. Calver noted that an international Test match is taking place at the basin Reserve, a Christmas event is underway in Waitangi Park, and Te Papa museum is opening its new Breathe | Mauri ora exhibition, offering a diverse range of entertainment options for residents and visitors alike.
