Dr. Omalpe Sobhitha Thera, the Chief Sangha Leader of the Ramanja Buddhist Faculty of Southern Sri Lanka, has said that as there is evidence that the Rajapaksas have plundered the country’s national wealth, the bulk of the wealth believed to have been looted should be recovered immediately and handed over to the State Treasury.
He was speaking at a press conference in Colombo yesterday on the current situation in the country. It is not my brother, son, son-in-law, relative or close friend who should think of the independent country and think of the honor and dignity of his position and take further presidential interventions to regain the wealth that has been confiscated.
We tell President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa that the hatred of the people of the country for President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa is increasing day by day. The Head of State should take advantage of this auspicious time to change this situation and seize the opportunity.
Major mistakes have been made in the past by the head of state. It is not enough for the head of state to apologize. They need to be corrected. We must bow our heads to the position of the people. The suggestions of the Maoist theorists must be accepted.
Proper investigation should be conducted into fraudulent giving and purchases, including alleged Pandora documents. The head of state is a man of solid vision, strength, and dignity who has received military training.
The time has come to reveal these. If so, the crisis in the country will be resolved. The world and the nation will hope again. Millions of Sri Lankans working abroad will send remittances home.
“We expect the head of state to take advantage of this opportunity and make history as a national player,” he said.
