Drunken Driver Flees After Three-Wheel Escape in Upper Palatinate

A 40-year-old woman faces multiple charges after attempting to evade authorities following a single-vehicle accident in the amberg-sulzbach district of Bavaria, Germany, on December 13, 2025. The driver, found to have an alcohol level of 2.26 per mille – more than four times the legal limit – continued driving despite losing a tire and causing sparks as the wheel rim scraped the road.
The woman, identified as a resident of the Amberg-Sulzbach district, was driving a silver sedan when she lost control on a curve near Auerbach. The vehicle struck several traffic signs and guide posts,resulting in a blown tire. Despite the significant damage, she attempted to flee the scene, driving on the vehicle’s rim and creating sparks. Witnesses reported she ignored attempts to stop her.
Reckless Escape Following Crash
The incident unfolded near Auerbach in the Upper Palatinate region. According to reports, the woman lost control of her vehicle while navigating a curve, resulting in a collision with multiple traffic signs and guide posts. The impact caused a front tire to detach from the car.Despite the significant damage and the obvious mechanical impairment, the driver attempted to flee the scene.
A witness at the scene reportedly approached the damaged vehicle and attempted to engage with the driver, but their efforts were ignored.Instead of stopping,the woman accelerated,continuing her escape on three wheels,leaving a trail of sparks from the exposed rim.
Apprehension and Legal Consequences
The unusual escape ultimately ended in a parking lot approximately one kilometer from the initial crash site, where police officers quickly located the driver unharmed. A subsequent breath alcohol test confirmed suspicions of heavy intoxication,registering a level of 2.26 per mille. Authorities immediatly ordered a blood sample to be taken for further analysis and confiscated her driver’s license.
The driver now faces charges including leaving the scene of an accident without providing data, driving under the influence of alcohol, and endangering road traffic.Authorities are currently assessing the full extent of the damage caused by the accident, which is estimated to be several thousand euros.
“The driver’s actions demonstrated a blatant disregard for public safety,” a senior official stated. The woman is being held pending a court appearance.
