Olympia Ohanian Priorizes Comics Over Father’s Business Magazine, Serena Williams Gets Athlete Recognition
A heartwarming bookstore visit took a playfully humbling turn for Reddit co-founder alexis Ohanian on Sunday, as his eight-year-old daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., demonstrated a clear preference for comic books over a business magazine featuring her father’s image.
The incident, captured in a video shared by Ohanian, highlights the relatable dynamic between a parent attempting to instill entrepreneurial spirit and a child simply enjoying the pleasures of youth. Ohanian playfully attempted to steer his daughter toward the magazine, asking, “Olympia, don’t you want to look at some of these business books down here?” Olympia firmly responded, “No. I want these,” gesturing toward her chosen comics.
The exchange continued with Ohanian’s gentle persistence: “You sure? I know, I see you, but, Olympia, are you sure you don’t want to see that business book? No. It’s a good business magazine.” olympia’s resolute reply, “yeah, I know it’s you,” underscored her independent decision-making.
However,the story took a sweet turn when Ohanian’s younger daughter,Adira,born in August 2023,showed interest in the magazine featuring her father. Ohanian narrated the moment, excitedly saying, “Didi, look. Didi, over there. Who’s that? yeah.Didi, go get the book. it’s an activity book! Yay! Good job, Didi. Didi, thank you for humoring your father.” He playfully questioned the definition of a “book,” even extending it to include a Hello Kitty item.
This isn’t the first glimpse into the playful bond between Ohanian and Olympia. In August, Ohanian shared moments of the pair enjoying mini-golf and making pasta together.More recently, a candid interview revealed another amusing dynamic: Olympia’s unwavering allegiance to her mother, Serena Williams, as her favorite athlete.
When asked about her favorite athlete, Olympia declared, “Um, my favorite athlete is mommy.” Ohanian’s playful protest, “What? What about Papa?” was met with a blunt but honest response: “You’re not an athlete.” Williams, the 23-time Grand Slam champion, received the compliment with a knowing smile, prompting Ohanian to concede, “That’s true. That’s very true. I was robbed.”
Ohanian has observed a blend of creative and athletic interests in his daughter. He shared with People magazine, “I do think she’s a mix of both creative and athletic right now. Mini golf was her thing a year or so ago, and then we got her proper golfing lessons, and she’s loved it. On the creative side, she loves to dance.” He emphasized the importance of allowing Olympia to explore her passions, stating, “Like any parent, we just want her to have fun, and we’re blessed enough to be able to expose her to anything she could be interested in.”
