Indonesia’s state-owned railway company, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), has postponed the launch of its highly anticipated Jaka Lalana tourist train indefinitely. The train, designed to offer a luxurious travel experience along the Jakarta, Bogor, Sukabumi, adn Cianjur route, was originally slated to begin operations on Sunday, December 14th. The delay is directly linked to KAI’s ongoing efforts to manage a railway disruption caused by a recent disaster on the island of sumatra.
KAI officials stated the decision to postpone was made in coordination with West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi, as well as regional leaders whose areas the train route traverses. according to a company release, the priority remains focused on restoring affected rail lines in sumatra before diverting resources to the new tourist venture.
“KAI and the Governor of West Java agreed to postpone the operation of the Jaka Lalana train because KAI is still focused on handling disasters in Sumatra because there are train lines that are affected,” a senior official stated on sunday, December 14th.
The company intends to resume preparations for the Jaka Lalana‘s launch instantly after the sumatra railway repairs are completed. Officials indicated that the train has already undergone successful trial runs and is fully operational, with a variety of tour packages planned to highlight the unique attractions of the cities and districts along the route.
The Jaka lalana train consists of five carriages: two dedicated to special tourist accommodations, two executive-class carriages, and a dedicated dining carriage. The planned route encompasses 17 stations, offering passengers a scenic journey through the heart of West Java.
This project represents a collaborative effort between the West Java Provincial Government and PT Kereta Api Indonesia. The name “Jaka Lalana,” derived from Sundanese, translates to “wanderer” or “one who likes to explore,” embodying the spirit of discovery the train aims to inspire.
