Penguins Fall to Mammoth in Overtime Heartbreak
For the second time in as many days, the Pittsburgh penguins experienced late-game collapse. This time, the team led by Sidney Crosby lost 5-4 to the Utah Mammoth after holding a commanding 3-0 lead through two periods of play. Dylan Guenther secured the victory for the Mammoth, scoring their 15th goal of the campaign just 42 seconds into overtime.
the Mammoth’s comeback was fueled by goals from Michael Carcone (two goals),Sean Durzi,and Nate Schmidt in regulation time. Goaltender Karel Vejmelka made 12 saves to secure the win, marking the Mammoth’s second consecutive victory. Despite goals from Justin Brazeau (two goals), Ben Kindel, and bryan Rust, the Penguins could not hold on. Penguins’ goaltender Sergei Murashov stopped an impressive 32 shots,but ultimately,it wasn’t enough.
Hurricanes Prevail in shootout, Flyers Fall Again
The Carolina Hurricanes edged out the Philadelphia Flyers 3-2 in a shootout victory, marking their third win in four days – all decided by a shootout. Andrei Svechnikov was the lone scorer in the shootout, securing the win for Carolina. William Carrier and Taylor Hall lit the lamp during regulation for the Hurricanes.
The Flyers, despite a goal and an assist from Trevor Zegras and a goal from jamie Drysdale, suffered their third straight loss beyond regulation time. Goaltender brandon Bus continued his stellar form, making 24 saves for his ninth consecutive win, while Dan Vladar repelled 30 pucks for the Flyers.
Sabers Secure Third Straight Win Against Seattle
The Buffalo Sabers continued their impressive run, defeating the Seattle team 3-1 for their third consecutive victory. Seattle,conversely,has now lost eight of their last nine games.
Noah Ostlund opened the scoring for the sabers in the first period, capitalizing on a two-for-one exchange with Josh Norris to score his fourth goal of the season. Take Thompson doubled the Sabers’ lead, converting a short pass from Peyton Krebs. Chandler Stephenson managed to respond for Seattle with a power-play goal, but Zach Benson sealed the win with an empty-net goal in the final minute. Joey Daccord blocked 22 shots.
