Zoom Launches AI Companion 3.0, Ushering in New Era of AI-Powered Workflows

The latest iteration of Zoom’s AI-powered assistant promises to revolutionize productivity and customer experience through enhanced automation and intelligent insights.

Zoom today announced the general release of AI Companion 3.0, a significant upgrade to its artificial intelligence platform designed to streamline workflows and enhance collaboration for both internal teams and customer-facing operations. Initially previewed earlier this year at Zoomtopia 2025, the new release marks a pivotal moment in the company’s ongoing AI transformation, according to Zoom CEO Eric Yuan. “In the AI era, we are leveraging AI to build an AI-first work platform – to have people connect to work smarter, better, and faster,” Yuan stated during an appearance on Fox Business’ Mornings with Maria.

The company is strategically positioning AI Companion 3.0 as a key component of its broader strategy to monetize AI agents, particularly within its enterprise solutions like Zoom Contact Center. Zoom is focused on providing customers with the tools to build and customize these agents, empowering any employee to automate routine tasks. “You can leverage Zoom AI Companion to build an agent – any employee can leverage Zoom AI Companion to automate workflow,” a company representative explained.

Extending AI Capabilities Across the Platform

Having evolved significantly over the past two years since its original release, Zoom AI Companion 3.0 extends its agentic AI capabilities across all of Zoom’s services. This update introduces a “federated AI model” approach, leveraging both Zoom’s proprietary large language models (LLMs) and third-party LLMs to optimize performance. Users will automatically be paired with the most effective model for each request, with the ability to seamlessly switch between options without disruption.

Central to this release is the AI Companion work surface, a web-based tool designed to transform meeting interactions into actionable insights. This eliminates the need for manual transcript uploads and document compilation, providing a centralized hub for progress tracking.

Key features of Zoom AI Companion 3.0 include:

  • Agentic Retrieval: Accesses interaction data from Zoom and popular third-party apps like Gmail, Outlook, Google Drive, and OneDrive.
  • Post Meeting Follow Up: Identifies next steps and generates email drafts to accelerate progress.
  • Daily Reflection Report: Provides users with daily summaries of interactions and tasks.
  • Agentic Writing Mode: Assists in drafting, editing, and refining documents using meeting data.
  • Document Exporting Simplified: Enables easy export of AI-generated content in various formats.
  • Zoom Docs: Facilitates collaborative document creation with shared commenting and version history.
  • AI Brainstorming Partner: Supports presentation and project planning.
  • Deep Research Mode: Provides insights through automated document and meeting analysis.

Prioritizing Security and Privacy in the Age of AI

Despite its significant investment in AI, Zoom emphasizes its commitment to data security and privacy. The company assures customers that all data remains encrypted during transmission and is not used for model training. Velchamy Sankarlingam, President of Product and Engineering at Zoom, described the launch of AI Companion 3.0 as “a turning point for Zoom, continuing our transformation from a meeting company into a pioneer of AI-first intelligent work orchestration.” He added, “Offering AI Companion’s newest capabilities both as a standalone option and within paid Zoom plans reflects our core belief of democratizing access to AI.”

Transforming Customer Experience with AI-Powered Insights

The update is poised to significantly impact customer interactions, enabling teams to quickly identify trends and address recurring issues. By accessing context across multiple services, AI Companion 3.0 eliminates data silos and provides a comprehensive view of the customer journey. The tool automates routine tasks like conversation summarization and follow-up actions, freeing up customer-facing teams to focus on more complex issues. Real-time context during interactions allows agents to provide faster, more informed support, while automated document creation streamlines reporting and analysis.

According to Kevin Kieller, Co-Founder and Lead Analyst at EnableUC, “AI Companion 3.0 is the type of solution people need to get work done. People need easy-to-use, consistent, consolidated solutions, and that’s exactly what Zoom is striving to deliver.” He believes that adopting this type of solution will drive efficiency, collaboration, and overall productivity across organizations.

Zoom’s AI Companion 3.0 represents a bold step toward a future where AI seamlessly integrates into the fabric of daily work, empowering users to connect, collaborate, and achieve more.
