Elma Aveiro, Sister of Cristiano Ronaldo, Faces Tax Fraud and Defamation Investigation

A legal inquiry has been launched into the business dealings and personal conduct of Elma Aveiro, sister of football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, amid allegations of tax fraud, defamation, and the sale of counterfeit merchandise. The controversy, which surfaced on Tuesday, December 16th, threatens to embroil the Aveiro family in a protracted legal battle and has already sparked public debate.

Inquiry Confirmed by Portuguese Authorities

The Portuguese Attorney General’s Office [PGR] has confirmed the receipt of a formal complaint against Elma Aveiro, triggering a current investigation. According to a statement, a senior official stated that the PGR acknowledged “the receipt of a complaint” which “gave rise to an inquiry that is currently under investigation.” The initial report originated with the website Fama e Fofoca and was subsequently discussed on the television program “V+ Fama” on TVI.

Allegations of Counterfeit Merchandise and Financial Irregularities

The complaint reportedly includes documentation suggesting financial improprieties and the distribution of inauthentic goods. Specifically, authorities are examining evidence of allegedly counterfeit shirts bearing Cristiano Ronaldo’s signature, alongside payment stubs and other financial records purportedly demonstrating tax fraud. The allegations center on claims that Aveiro sold these shirts as authentic products, potentially deceiving consumers.

Defamation Claim Stemming from Former Employee Dispute

Beyond the financial allegations, the complaint also alleges defamation and slander stemming from a dispute with a former employee of Aveiro’s. Details surrounding this claim remain limited, but it forms a significant component of the 3 million euro compensation being sought by the complainants. A tell-all book, tentatively titled “The Hidden Face of Elma Aveiro,” is planned for release in February 2026, promising a deeper dive into the allegations.

From CR7 Retail to Online Entrepreneurship

Elma Aveiro’s entrepreneurial journey has seen both success and setbacks. She previously operated a chain of clothing stores in Madeira that sold merchandise related to her brother’s CR7 brand. However, these stores ultimately closed permanently in 2022. Currently, Aveiro focuses on selling cosmetic products, branded merchandise – including diaries, bookmarks, and mugs – and occasionally promotes raffles featuring signed shirts via her Instagram account. She also engages in fashion, style, and coaching events.

The Aveiro Family Dynamic

Cristiano Ronaldo, currently 40 years old, is one of four children born to Dolores Aveiro and José Diniz Aveiro, who passed away in 2005. His siblings include Hugo Aveiro, 50, who manages the CR7 Museum, and Katia Aveiro, 48, a businesswoman residing in Brazil. The family has often been in the public eye, benefiting from and occasionally navigating the complexities of Cristiano Ronaldo’s global fame.

Online Defensiveness and Public Disputes

Elma Aveiro is known for her staunch defense of her brother, often responding to criticism of Cristiano Ronaldo on social media. On November 23, 2025, she publicly targeted Maria Castello Branco on Instagram, reportedly engaging in a heated exchange with insulting language. This incident highlights Aveiro’s willingness to confront perceived slights against her brother and underscores her active presence in the public sphere.
