Greek Parliamentary Inquiry Descends into Chaos Amidst Allegations of Cover-Ups and Slander

This admission followed questioning from Makarios Lazaridis, the rapporteur for New Democracy, who pressed Konstantopoulou on whether the organization adhered to party funding regulations and if its financial details were properly declared.Lazaridis also alleged that Konstantopoulou was secretly recording the proceedings.

The atmosphere reportedly became “red hot” after Lazaridis accused Konstantopoulou of illegally videotaping committee members and a witness during a break. Konstantopoulou countered,asserting that witnesses are prohibited from contact with anyone after taking the oath.
Lazaridis further claimed that Konstantopoulou engaged in aggressive behavior, stating, “During the break, the sexist Konstantopoulou unnecessarily started videotaping us and taking pictures of us with the witness.” He also alleged she threatened a fellow committee member, Ms. Liakoulis, to retract a previous complaint regarding a parliament employee who had been reduced to tears by Konstantopoulou’s conduct.
Konstantopoulou vehemently denied the accusations, repeatedly demanding to know the basis for the “slander.” She threatened to release a video purportedly showing Lazaridis and Giorgos Mylonakis, Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister, conspiring, stating, “I will publish the video in which Lazaridis – Mylonakis are depicted conspiring.”

OPEKEPE Investigation Reveals Questions About Ministerial Connections
Parallel to the OKAY channel inquiry, an investigation into OPEKEPE, Greece’s agricultural payment agency, has raised questions about the involvement of Minister Akis Skertsos. Skertsos maintained he had no substantive competence in matters of rural development and no personal or professional relationships with OPEKEPE administrations. He characterized the issue of agricultural subsidies as a “chronic, structural and cross-party problem.”
However, questioning by Milena Apostolaki of PASOK revealed a photograph of Skertsos at the home of Manolis Xylouris, brother of giorgos Xylouris, prompting a contentious exchange. Skertsos responded by questioning the involvement of PASOK leader Nikos Androulakis’s best man in the case, a move Apostolaki deemed irrelevant and inappropriate.
