The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, has been formally invested this Saturday for a second term of five years, in a solemn ceremony in which he has assumed that he must be “a new president” to meet the expectations of “a new people”, different from the one who voted for him for the first time in 2017.

“The French people have not prolonged the mandate that is now ending. It is a new people, different from the one of five years ago, the one that has entrusted a new president with a new mandate”, Macron said in his speech, in which he has expressed the will to build bridges that he already expressed even on election night. .

Under the promise to “act”, “love” and “serve”, Macron has recognized “the seriousness of the times” and has called for everyone’s collaboration. “All together, we must invent a new method by which we can build a new productive, social and ecological contract,” he proclaimed.

Macron hopes to leave as a legacy “a more habitable planet” and “a more alive and stronger France”, under the premise that the country is called to “inspire the world”.

The act took place at the Elysee and, in compliance with the protocols, it started with a first validation by the President of the Constitutional Council, Laurent Fabius, who confirmed that Macron’s new mandate will formally begin at 12:15 a.m. on May 14.

In total, some 400 guests have attended this ceremony, including former presidents Nicolas Sarkozy and François Hollande. Former prime ministers have also attended, as well as different authorities representing different instances of power in France.
