In January last year, the price of a home cooking gas cylinder was Rs 710. Then it gradually increased to Rs 915.50 last October.

Later, with the announcement of elections for five states, including Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, the prices of household cylinders, petrol and diesel were not raised. Oil companies raised the price of home cooking gas cylinders by Rs 50 last March due to the end of the 5 state elections and the rise in international crude oil prices due to the Russia-Ukraine war. In Chennai, the price of a household cylinder increased to Rs.965.50.

In this situation, the oil companies yesterday raised the price of cooking gas cylinders again. Accordingly, the price of a cooking gas cylinder has gone up by Rs 50 to Rs 1,015.50. The price of a cooking gas cylinder has increased by Rs 305 in the last 17 months.

Already, the price of a cylinder for commercial use has been raised and is currently selling at Rs 2,508.50. In this situation, the increase in the price of household cylinders has worried housewives.

“Income has halved since the corona epidemic,” they said. Many are unemployed. Wages have been slashed even though some have jobs. Thus, coping with the monthly housing cost is a huge burden. In this situation, the rising price of cooking gas cylinders is of great concern. Up to a thousand rupees per cylinder has to be set aside for the monthly salary. ”
