Matchroom Boxing Event at Madison Square Garden – January 31st
(New York, December 27, 2025) – Matchroom Boxing has announced a January 31st event at Madison Square Garden in New York, headlined by a WBO super lightweight world championship bout between current titleholder Teofimo Lopez (22-1) and Shakler stevenson (24-0).
The event will feature multiple championship fights and is part of “The Ring 6,” a series financially backed by Turki Alalshikh, President of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority.
- Carlos adames will defend his WBC world middleweight title against Austin Williams.
- A potential IBF title change could lead to a fight for the vacant belt involving Etinosa Oliha, Vincenzo Gualtieri, or Shakiel Thompson.
- The vacant WBC featherweight title will be contested between Bruce “Shu shu” Carrington and Carlos Castro.
- Keyshawn Davis will make his super lightweight debut against Jamaine Ortiz in a non-title bout.
As previously reported by Boxeringweb, Dominican fighter Carlos “Bronco” Adames (24-1-1) will defend his WBC world middleweight title against American Austin “Ammo” Williams (19-1), who is ranked sixth in the division. Adames has defended the title three times since winning the interim version in October 2022 with a third-round knockout of Juan Macias Montiel, and has since secured victories over Julian Williams and Terrel Gausha, as well as a draw against Hamzah sheeraz in Riyadh last February.
Williams, managed by Matchroom, was previously scheduled to face etinosa “El Chapo” Oliha (21-0) in an IBF preliminary bout set for July 19 in Frisco, Texas, but that fight was canceled due to vision problems experienced by Oliha. The announcement of the Adames-Williams championship bout has subsequently altered plans for Oliha.
Should the IBF strip Kazakh fighter janibek Alimkanuly of his championship title due to a positive VADA test, Oliha, currently ranked second by the IBF, would be in line to compete for the vacant title. Potential opponents in that scenario include Germany’s Vincenzo Gualtieri, ranked fourth, or England’s Shakiel Thompson, ranked fifth.
The vacant WBC featherweight world title, previously held by Stephen Fulton (23-2), will also be contested at the event. The fight will feature American bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington (16-0), the current “Interim” champion, against Carlos Castro (30-3), ranked second in the division. Carrington has held the interim title as July 26,when he defeated Mateus Heita in New York.
