Béguey, Gironde: Mayor Rodolphe Yung Steps Down, Backs Successor François Daurat

A changing of the guard is underway in Béguey, Gironde, as Mayor Rodolphe Yung prepares to hand over leadership in March 2026, marking the end of a six-year tenure. Yung is endorsing François Daurat as his successor, signaling a continuation of the current municipal project while allowing the outgoing mayor to refocus on his demanding viticulture business.
A Prioritized Return to Viticulture
Yung’s decision stems from the increasing demands of his viticulture operations. “I am fighting for the viticulture part,” he stated, acknowledging the incompatibility of the time-intensive role of mayor with the needs of his family’s wine business. Despite enjoying his time in office, Yung explained that his professional commitments simply require his full attention. He also noted a belief in the importance of rotating leadership, stating, “But it’s also good to rotate, to take turns in power.”
While Yung, who also works as an accountant, initially hoped to continue his political career after being first elected in 2020, he ultimately concluded it was unsustainable. “My job takes up too much space,” he confided.
A Legacy of Community Investment
Looking back on his mandate, Yung expressed satisfaction with the progress made during his time as mayor. The municipality has undertaken significant renovations, including improvements to the school restaurant, town hall, and church bell tower. These “big projects,” as Yung described them, represent a tangible investment in the community’s infrastructure and well-being.
A Seamless Transition
François Daurat, currently Yung’s deputy, is positioned to take the helm. The pair jointly announced their candidacy under the banner of “Living well in Béguey.” Daurat’s deputy, François Golden, expressed gratitude for Yung’s leadership, noting that “It’s much easier to work as a team.” Golden intends to continue this collaborative approach should Daurat win the upcoming election, promising to “continue to work for the common good.”

Remaining Involved in Local Governance
Yung will not entirely step away from local politics. He intends to remain involved as a municipal advisor, offering his support to Daurat and his team. This continued engagement demonstrates a commitment to the community and a desire to see the current municipal project through to fruition.
