- The robot is designed to perform indoor household tasks.
- CLOiD represents LG’s push to integrate robotics and AI into its appliance lineup.
- The “Zero Labour Home” concept aims to automate housework and free up personal time.
The device will be publicly demonstrated for the first time at the technology trade show, where LG describes CLOiD as a versatile home assistant capable of performing a range of indoor tasks and supporting daily home management. This launch underscores LG’s broader strategy to seamlessly embed robotics and artificial intelligence within its entire home appliance portfolio.
The Vision of a “Zero Labour Home”
LG envisions CLOiD as a central component of its long-term “Zero Labour Home, Makes Quality Time” initiative. This concept prioritizes the automation of tedious domestic chores, ultimately reducing the amount of manual housework required. Engineers have specifically designed the robot’s form factor to integrate smoothly into existing home layouts and room sizes.
CLOiD boasts two highly articulated arms, each offering seven degrees of freedom. LG explains that this joint structure mimics the fluidity and precision of natural human arm movements. Furthermore, each hand is equipped with five individually controlled fingers, providing the dexterity needed for delicate and precise actions requiring fine motor skills.
AI-Powered Intelligence and Awareness
The “brain” of CLOiD resides within its head, housing a powerful chipset that LG describes as the core processing unit. This head also integrates a display, speaker, camera, and a suite of sensors, enabling expressive visual communication, audio interaction, and comprehensive spatial awareness.
LG emphasizes that the sensor suite is fundamental to CLOiD’s ability to navigate homes effectively. The system intelligently detects its surroundings and dynamically adjusts its movements to accommodate different layouts and avoid obstacles. CLOiD operates on LG’s proprietary “Affectionate Intelligence” technology, an AI platform designed to facilitate natural and intuitive voice interaction with users.
What makes CLOiD different? The system analyzes repeated interactions over time, allowing it to refine its responses and adapt to individual user preferences and behaviours. LG’s ultimate goal is to create a robot that seamlessly integrates into household routines, offering personalized assistance with everyday tasks, including task execution, reminders, and interactive support.
Investing in the Future of Robotics
LG has significantly increased its investment in robotics through its Home Appliance Solution Company. This business unit now includes the HS Robotics Lab, dedicated to developing cutting-edge robotics technologies. The lab’s focus encompasses the creation of core robotics systems and their integration into future home products, strengthening both LG’s technological capabilities and the competitiveness of its upcoming devices.
The company is also actively pursuing collaborative research and partnerships with external robotics specialists, both within Korea and in international markets. Industry analysts recognize domestic robotics as a rapidly emerging segment within the consumer electronics landscape, with current offerings ranging from specialized cleaning devices to more versatile, multi-task platforms like CLOiD.
A Glimpse into the Future at CES
At CES 2026, attendees will experience CLOiD in action through a series of staged “Zero Labour Home” scenarios at LG’s exhibit within the Las Vegas Convention Centre. Demonstrations will showcase the robot operating within simulated living spaces.
The showcase will be integrated with other LG smart home products, reflecting the company’s increasing emphasis on creating a cohesive and interconnected home ecosystem. The Home Appliance Solution Company, responsible for developing kitchen and living appliances, now also encompasses LG’s Robot Business Division.
LG stated that integrating robotics into this division will accelerate the development of innovative home solutions that combine traditional appliances with automated systems. “LG CLOiD is the culmination of years of research and development in robotics and artificial intelligence,” said Lyu Jae-cheol, President, Home Appliance Solution Company, LG Electronics. “We believe this technology will fundamentally change how people manage their homes in the future.”
LG plans to continue investing in robotics research and forging strategic collaborations with global partners as it progresses toward its “Zero Labour Home” roadmap.
