Jelgava Municipal Services Adjust Schedules for New Year Period

A critically important number of Jelgava’s state and city municipal institutions are operating on altered schedules in early January, impacting access to essential services for residents. Thes changes, announced by local authorities, are designed to allow for a period of adjustment at the beginning of the new year.

Widespread Closures Impacting City Operations

Until January 4, a broad range of municipal bodies will be closed to the public. this includes the central Management, Centralized Accounting of Municipal Institutions, Orphan’s Court, Jelgava Education Board, Jelgava City Council, Jelgava Municipality Building Facts System, and the Jelgava Municipality Public Health Department.

Civil Registry Services Limited, But Available

The Civil Registry Department of Jelgava city and county will have limited availability. It will be closed on January 2 and January 4.However, critical services related to life events will continue.Specifically, the department will facilitate the registration of marriage ceremonies and the issuance of death certificates on January 3, between the hours of 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM.

Competence Development Center Announces Phased Reopening

The Zemgale Region Competence development Center will resume operations with adjusted hours. On January 16, the center will be open from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, followed by a shorter operating period on january 17, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. This phased reopening suggests a gradual return to full service capacity.

Essential Services Maintain Limited Functionality

Despite the widespread closures, some essential services will remain accessible with modified schedules. On January 2, the cemeteries managed by the municipal institution “Pilsētasimniecība” will operate from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. This ensures continued access for families and mourners.

Library Access Temporarily disrupted

Jelgava’s library system is also affected. Jelgava City Library, Pārlielupe Library, Miezīte Library, and the children’s and youth library “Zinītis” will all be closed on January 2. However,residents are encouraged to utilize the book transfer machines located at the Jelgava City Library (Akadēmijas Street 26) and the Miezīte Library (Dobeles Highway 100a) for convenient book returns.

Tourist Attractions Adapt hours

The new year also brings changes to the operating hours of Jelgava’s popular tourist destinations. jelgava’s Holy Trinity Church tower, Jelgava’s Old Town House, and the Life and Crafts Farm have all announced adjusted schedules.

The Trinity Church Tower history displays will be open from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM on January 2 and 3, and from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM on January 4. The tower’s observation deck, exhibition hall, and Tourist Information Center will follow similar hours, operating from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM on January 2 and 3, and from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM on january 4. Notably, the historical exposition and the observation deck/exhibition hall will be closed on January 5.

Jelgava’s Old Town House will welcome visitors from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM on January 2 and 3,and from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM on January 4.

The Farm of Life and Crafts will have limited access, opening from January 6 until January 6th, but only for visitors who have made prior arrangements by calling 29116210.

These adjustments to municipal and cultural institution schedules reflect a common practise during the early days of the new year, allowing staff to regroup and prepare for the year ahead while ensuring essential services remain accessible to the community.
