Mexico Gears Up for a Landmark 2026: World Cup, Music Festivals, and New Telenovelas

Mexico is poised for a vibrant and action-packed 2026, with a calendar brimming with major international events, highly anticipated music festivals, and compelling new television programming. From hosting the FIFA World Cup for a historic third time to welcoming legendary musicians back to the stage, the country is preparing to captivate both domestic and global audiences.

A Historic World Cup Returns

The most significant event on Mexico’s 2026 horizon is undoubtedly the FIFA World Cup, co-hosted with the United States and Canada. Mexico will make history as the first nation to host the tournament for the third time, solidifying its position as a footballing powerhouse. According to reports, the inaugural match is scheduled for June 11, 2026, at the iconic Azteca Stadium in Mexico City.

The confirmed host cities within Mexico are Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey, each boasting world-class stadiums – the Azteca, Akron, and BBVA, respectively. Beyond the sporting spectacle, large concerts are planned to coincide with the matches, featuring performances by Carlos Santana, Maná, and Alejandro Fernández.

Music Takes Center Stage

The 2026 calendar is also packed with major music events catering to diverse tastes. The VIVE LATINO FESTIVAL 2026, scheduled for March 14 and 15 at the GNP Seguros stadium, promises a stellar lineup including Lenny Kravitz, La Maldita Vecindad, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, The Mars Volta, The Smashing Pumpkins, Cypress Hill, Santa Sabina, Carlos Sadness, and Juanes.

For fans of heavier music, the inaugural SAN LUIS METAL FESTIVAL will take place on May 16 and 17 at the FENAPO People’s Theater, offering a free event following the success of Marilyn Manson’s previous performance at the venue. The festival will feature acts like Metal Church, Grave, Grimson Glory, and Armored Saint.

Rock legends AC/DC are set to electrify audiences on April 7, 11, and 15 at the GNP Seguros Stadium with their “PWR Up Tour 2026,” though tickets remain available only for the final date. The band’s return after a 17-year absence is a major draw for fans of hard rock.

Progressive rock enthusiasts will be thrilled by the return of ALAN PARSONS PROJECT on February 11, 2026, at the Olympic Velodrome. The British band’s “The Show Must Go On” tour celebrates over five decades of musical innovation.

THE ANGELS OF HELL will embark on their “Todos Somos Ángeles Rock Fest 2026” tour, with dates at Arena CDMX (February 15), Arena Monterrey (February 22), and Arena Guadalajara (March 1). The CDMX show promises a particularly exciting lineup, including Kabrönes (formerly of Wizard of Oz), Saratoga, Transmetal, and Trágico Ballet.

Pop superstars are also making their way to Mexico. ROSALÍA will perform five dates, August 22-29, at El Palacio de los Deportes, and three shows in Monterrey, supporting her new album Lux. PINK is scheduled to bring her “Carnival Tour” to the GNP Stadium on April 26, marking her return to Mexico after 23 years. Notably, the singer underwent surgery in early 2026 to address cervical spine issues but is recovering well and preparing for the tour.

Thrash metal icons MEGADEATH will play a farewell tour, ‘This Was our life’, on May 10 and 11 at Arena CDMX. Fans can also look forward to the release of their documentary, ‘Megadeath: Behind the mask’, on January 22, and their self-titled album on January 23. MADONNA is also preparing to release a new album after a seven-year hiatus, titled ‘Madame’.

New Drama Unfolds on Screen

Beyond music and sports, Mexico’s television landscape is also evolving. SUNDAY MONTERO, a new production from Televisa Univisión, premiered in the United States on December 8 and arrived in Mexico on December 19 via the VIX platform. It will debut on open television on January 19 at 9:30 pm, replacing ‘Los Hilos del corazón,’ and stars Angelique Boyer, Marcus Ornelas, Scarlet Gruber, and Brandon Peniche.

As Mexico looks ahead to 2026, it’s clear that the nation is set to be a global hub for entertainment and sporting excellence, offering a diverse range of experiences for residents and visitors alike.
