Jallikattu was held in the village of Thenur near Ponnamaravathi on the eve of the Chithrai festival. In turn a drain was set up in the village of Thenur. First a medical examination was conducted for the bulls and the warriors. Then the temple bull was unleashed. This was followed by the unloading of the decorated bulls one by one from the drain.

It was attended by 300 cowherds who suppressed the raging bulls. Then the public clapped and cheered. Some of the bulls threw the players and played ball. Of this, 785 bulls were unloaded from various places including Pudukottai, Thanjavur, Trichy, Sivagangai and Madurai.

6 people were injured

Six people were slightly injured in the incident. They were treated by the medical team there. Prizes of bicycles, bureaus, silver, gold coins, cookers, cots, chairs and cash prizes were given to the soldiers who suppressed the bulls at Jallikkat and to the owners of the bulls that were not caught by the soldiers.

Jallikaddai Minister S. Raghupathi, Thenur Panchayat Council Chairman Giritharan, Iluppur Revenue District Governor Kulantaisamy, Ponnamaravathi District Governor Jayabharathi and a large number of people from the surrounding areas including Pudukottai and Ponnamaravathi were present. Security arrangements were made by the Ponnamaravathi police on the orders of Pudukottai District Superintendent of Police Nisha Parthiban.
