‘Asani’ formed in the Bay of Bengal in northern Andhra Pradesh

Chennai: Due to the ‘Asani’ storm that formed in the Bay of Bengal, there is a possibility of heavy rain in Tamil Nadu for 4 days and it has been reported that this storm will cross the coast in northern Andhra Pradesh and Odisha tomorrow.

Even before the Agni star started in Tamil Nadu, the severe sun has been gripping the people. The weather has been pleasant with moderate rains in various parts of Tamil Nadu for the last few days.

In this situation, a depression has formed in the southern Andamans and adjoining south-eastern Bay of Bengal in the last few days. This depression was strengthened into a deep depression.

Due to this, other parts of Tamil Nadu including Palladam in Thoothukudi, Trichy and Tiruppur districts of Tamil Nadu received moderate to heavy rains yesterday.

In Trichy, houses collapsed due to torrential rains. Also, bananas grown in the area were damaged.

At this point, a deep depression formed in the southern Andaman and southeastern Bay of Bengal formed into a storm yesterday morning. The storm is named Asani.

The storm is expected to turn into a severe storm in 24 hours and move in a north-westerly direction. The storm was moving at a speed of 970 kmph from Visakhapatnam. The Indian Meteorological Department said it was centered in the distance.

Hurricane Asani is expected to make landfall in northern Andhra Pradesh and Odisha tomorrow.

The epicenter was reported below the Pacific Ocean floor, however; no tsunami alert was issued. Fishermen are advised not to go to these areas and fishermen in the deep sea are advised to return to shore.

The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rains in Tamil Nadu for 4 days due to Asani storm.

Today there will be thundershowers at several places in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry, Pudukottai, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Cuddalore, Ariyalur, Trichy, Karur, Perambalur, Kallakurichi, Erode, Salem, Namakkal, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri and one in 16 districts and Karaikal. Heavy rain is also likely.

Extreme levels of flood danger were announced in Pamban, Rameswaram and Dhanushkodi areas today.

However, in one or two places in Tamil Nadu, the maximum temperature is expected to rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius for the next two days.

Meanwhile, the number one storm warning cage has been installed at Karaikal, Pamban, Nagaon and Cuddalore due to the strengthening of the deep depression and turning into a storm.
