Sarah Knafo Launches paris Mayoral Bid, Shifts Focus from National Politics

A rising figure on the French right, Sarah Knafo, has officially announced her candidacy for Mayor of paris in the March 15th and 22nd elections, effectively ruling herself out of contention for the 2027 presidential race.
Just a year ago, knafo was largely known as the strategist behind her partner, Eric Zemmour’s, 2022 presidential campaign. Now, the Member of the European Parliament for Reconquête!, and the party’s sole elected official, is stepping into the spotlight as a potential leader for the French capital. She revealed her decision on Wednesday, January 7th, during an interview on TF1’s “20 Heures” news program.
A Bold Challenge to Paris’s Status Quo
“I am a candidate to be the next mayor of Paris (…) No one will be as resolute as I am to end the waste” in the capital, Knafo declared, positioning herself as a reformer ready to tackle perceived mismanagement. She is now the sixth candidate to enter the race to succeed Anne hidalgo.
Knafo outlined an ambitious six-year plan,promising to “redress the most beautiful city in the world.” Central to her platform is a proposed €10 billion in savings, wich she intends to use to substantially lower taxes for Parisians, including halving the property tax.

She will contend with Rachida Dati, the Minister of Culture and current mayor of Paris’s 7th arrondissement, who is backed by Les Républicains and the MoDem. Thierry Mariani, representing the Rassemblement National, also seeks to capture the right-leaning vote. Other candidates include Pierre-Yves Bournazel (Horizons, supported by Renaissance), Emmanuel Grégoire (Socialist Party, leading a left-wing coalition), and Sophia Chikirou (La France Insoumise).
The presence of two candidates from the far-right – Knafo and Mariani – raises concerns about a potential split in the vote, potentially preventing either from reaching the 10% threshold needed to gain depiction on the Paris Council.
