Amy Madigan Celebrates First SAG-AFTRA Nomination for WEAPONS Role

A veteran actress with a career spanning four decades, Amy Madigan has received her first nomination from the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) for her performance in Zach Cregger’s WEAPONS. The recognition, she says, is a deeply gratifying “pinch me moment.”
Madigan expressed immense gratitude for the acknowledgment, highlighting the collaborative spirit that brought her character, Gladys, to life. “This journey of bringing Gladys to life in Zach Cregger’s WEAPONS along with seeing and experiencing the response from audiences, press, critics—and now my fellow actors—is something I am so incredibly thankful for,” she stated.
From Field of Dreams to WEAPONS: A Career Honored
Known for her iconic role in Field of Dreams, Madigan emphasized that the current honor feels particularly special given its source. She recalled a simple lunch meeting with director Zach Cregger as the genesis of her involvement. “I never would have thought when Zach and I met for lunch to discuss the role that I’d be here today, expressing my gratitude to my fellow SAG-AFTRA members for this recognition,” she explained.
Collaborative Vision Behind Gladys’ Creation
The actress was quick to share the credit for her success in portraying Gladys, acknowledging the crucial contributions of the entire production team. Zach Cregger’s original vision, she noted, was instrumental. Madigan specifically lauded the work of the hair, makeup, prosthetics, and costume teams, stating that their expertise was invaluable in her process of embodying the character.
However, she stressed that the experience was elevated by the strength of her fellow performers. “But it’s working opposite scene partners like Julia Garner, Josh Brolin, Cary Christopher, Benedict Wong, Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Toby Huss, Clayton Farris, Whitmer Thomas, Callie Schuttera and the best group of young actors that made that experience even better,” she said.
Madigan also extended her thanks to casting director Allison Jones and the entire crew, emphasizing that the nomination is a shared achievement. “I share this honor with all of you!” she concluded.
