Dieter F. Uchtdorf Named acting President of Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

Understanding the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
The Quorum of the Twelve Apostles holds a pivotal position within the Church, functioning as the second-highest presiding body. These Apostles serve as special witnesses of the name of Christ globally and carry significant administrative responsibilities for the Church’s worldwide operations and growth. They operate under the direction of the First Presidency, comprised of the Church President and two counselors.
Tradition Dictates Appointment
The Church adheres to a specific practise regarding the leadership of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. the senior member by date of ordination typically assumes the role of quorum president. Currently, President Henry B. Eyring holds the position of president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, but also serves as First Counselor in the First Presidency.
Therefore, President Uchtdorf will serve as “Acting President,” mirroring a precedent set by President Holland, who held the same role from November 15, 2023, through September 27, 2025. This arrangement allows for a seamless continuation of leadership while maintaining the established hierarchy within the Church.
